Western Trails Historical Society 2011 Calendars are available for $10.00 each.  The theme of the 2011 calendar is “Up the Trail in 76”.  This is the second calendar in a series of historical calendars to be used as a fundraiser for the Museum of the Western Prairie.  Calendars are available at various locations in Altus to include the Altus Chamber of Commerce.

7th............... The Altus Air Force Base will have a Dedication Ceremony at the Wings of Freedom Park at 10:30 a.m.  A granite bench is being dedicated to honor our fallen heroes who have paid the highest price in protecting our nation’s freedom. 

8th............... Washington Elementary School will have their Model School Celebration.  This school was awarded the title of Model School for the 2010-2011 school year. At 1:00 p.m., the school will be open to the public for visits to classrooms.  At 2:00 p.m., there will be a presentation in the Cafeteria, followed by a flag raising and dismissal of school for the day.

9th............... Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, the International Men’s March to end stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.  The march will begin at the Courthouse and continue to East City Park (Hightower Park). Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. on the south side of the courthouse and the march begins at 12:00, noon.  After the March, there will be a hot dog lunch and live entertainment.  For more information call (580) 482-3800

9th............... Dirt Riot 4 hour Endurance Race at the Coppermines Off Road Park. 10th–14th..... 49th Annual Quail Breakfast.  For more information contact the Altus Chamber of Commerce (580) 482-0210.  The week of the Quail Breakfast is an incredible opportunity for Altus to interact with Serior Air Force and other military leaders as well as Politicians holding Federal offices.  On Tuesday night, there will be a dinner hosted by the Altus Military Affairs Committee, on Wednesday, there will be a Congressional Staff Reception, and on Thursday, the Annual Quail Breakfast.

23rd–30th..... AMC Rodeo 2011.  The Air Mobility Command Rodeo is a biennial Olympic-style, international airlift competition hosted by the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command. AMC gathers wings from active duty, reserve, and Air National Guard units across the United States and around the world to test and improve tactics in a competitive environment. In this environment units are able to demonstrate capabilities, improve procedures, compare notes, and enhance standardization for global operations. The competition tests the flight and ground skills of mobility aircraft aircrews, security forces, aerial port operations, aeromedical evacuation, and maintenance team members. The event showcases the best of US and international mobility forces abilities and provides a forum for US airmen and international partners to share the best of tactics and techniques that are essential in the continued pursuit of coalition operations around the world.  The Altus AFB Rodeo Team will again compete in this year’s event held at McChord Field, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington State.  The Altus community will again support the team with items for their hospitality tent and providing some money for T-Shirts, Coins and Hats.  Each team member will be presented an authentic straw cowboy hat provided by NBC.  Other sponsors from Altus include Boeing, L3-Link Simulation & Training,

5th...............  Southwest Community Action Group Harvest for the Hungry sacks will be distributed to the community at large.  Several teams of volunteers will go throughout the community and place sacks on door knobs.  There will be a flyer attached to the sack indicating what items are being requested.  Sacks will be picked up on November 12th.  If you have any questions, please call (580) 471-9489

5th...............  The Altus Masonic Lodge and Altus Salvation Army will host a Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. at the Altus Masonic Lodge located at 1120 N. 19th...............  The City of Altus will kick off Christmas in the Park 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Santa to arrive by Fire Truck at 7:30 p.m.  Christmas lights to be turned on at dark.

21st–22nd..... Altus High School students will present their own version of Phantom of The Opera at the Eula B. Peterson Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.  The All School Production will be directed by Altus High School teachers Stephanie Douglas and Alice Newman.  The orchestra will be conducted by Mary Runyan, and the choreography is by AHS students Evan Smiley, Morgan Gover and Holly Leverett.  Set Director is Mike Snyder.  Tickets will be on sale through the month of November.
