About the Chamber
The Altus Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the economic, industrial, professional, cultural, educational and civic welfare of the Altus area. We exist facilitate members' growth, promote the creation of new business in the Altus area, host events to the benefit of Altus's economy, foster community spirit, and provide informational resources to the community.
Altus is a progressive, clean, friendly city which is recognized as the commercial, cultural, health and services center of Southwest Oklahoma. It is characterized by its leadership which is united in its efforts to develop an attitude toward growth, an infrastructure system which supports expansion, top quality of life which is recognized as second to none.

The Altus Chamber of Commerce was first established as the Altus Civic and Commercial Club in 1908, and it was officially incorporated as the Altus Chamber of Commerce on April 14, 1941. The Chamber is recognized by the IRS with a 501(c)6 nonprofit tax designation, which specifically encompasses business leagues and chambers of commerce. All funds received from members are expected to carry forward a broad program of work. These funds are used to employ a professionally trained staff to handle specialized community opportunities, to maintain adequate quarters, provide information selling the advantages of being in Altus. As such, the Altus Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the economic, industrial, professional, cultural, educational and civic welfare of the Altus area. To encourage growth of existing industries and business, while giving all proper assistance to any new firms or individuals seeking to locate in the Altus area. To support all those activities believed to be beneficial in the community and area; to oppose which those might be detrimental. To promote the welfare of all area citizens, following always those policies intended to accomplish the greatest good for the greatest number. In general, to preserve and protect the competitive and free enterprise system of business.
Our Board of Directors is made up of 15 dedicated business leaders from the Altus area, with each one serving staggered 3-year terms. Every year, 5 new Directors take office on the first day of January as 5 current Board members complete their terms. Our Board meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 3:30 p.m. While only Board members may cast votes during the meeting, Board meetings are open to all Chamber members.
